RV policiesIf you’ve never booked an RV rental before, you may have more than a few questions about the amenities, the process, and what to expect. The Dependable Camper Rental team is always ready to help make your rental experience the best in Texas. One of the most common questions we get is in regard to towing capacity—and with good reason. You don’t want to show up to get your camper, only to discover your vehicle doesn’t have what it takes. So let us give you a few pointers. Your first step should be to determine your vehicle’s towing capacity. You can find this information in your owner’s manual. From there, you can decide which motorhome would be the best fit. The towing requirements vary based on whether you want to rent a pop-up camper or a travel trailer. The pop-up camper requirements are:
  •  2” Ball on receiver hitch (no bumper ball application)
  • Flat plug or 7-way round plug on vehicle for light hook up
  • No spare tire mounts on back of vehicle
The towing requirements for a travel trailer are as follows:
  • Minimum class 3 2” receiver hitch (draw bar with 2 5/16 ball will be provided)
  • 7-way round plug for hook up
  • Electronic brake controller box in vehicle (any unit bigger than 25 feet)
  • Sway bar system will be supplied for travel trailers
  • No bumper ball applications expected
  • No spare tire mounts on back of vehicle
Note that for travel trailers, each model has a different weight, so you will want to make sure your vehicle is up to the task. Failure to do your proper research could result in damage to your vehicle or to the camper rental.
